Travis County’s Transportation and Natural Resources Department is seeking a paid intern to assist the Safety Department in the summer of 2021.  The purpose of this position is to further the student’s understanding and experience in the field of occupational safety. 

The intern will assist staff with the following:

Assist with the development of one safety training session for County employees in Road Maintenance, Fleet Services and Parks (presentation during 4 sessions).

Assist with fire extinguisher inspections.

Provide assistance on Accident/Incident/Injury investigations. Participate in interviews of personnel involved in accident, give opinion on preventative and corrective actions.

Assist with Hazard Communication Program Maintenance, audit TNR locations for products to verify Safety Data Sheets have been acquired.

Evaluate at least one specific activity job hazard analysis, determine safety related needs and suggest process safety criteria, personal protective equipment and other safety related requirements.


Full-time student studying for an undergraduate degree in occupational safety with status of Junior or Senior.  Requires a valid driver’s license.  Schedule will be Monday – Friday, 6:30 am – 3:30 pm for 10 – 12 weeks (at least 450 hours expected).  The projected start date for the internship is mid to late May 2021.

The hourly rate of pay is $13.59/hour.
